There is an article in ACM SIGCOMM Oct 1995 Number 5, volume 25 titled
Performance Problems in BSD4.4 TCP. The abstract is:

This paper describes problems in BSD 4.4-Lite version of TCP (some of which
are also present in earlier versions, such as the Net2 implementation of
TCP) and proposes fixes that result in a 21% incrase in throughput under
realistic conditions. (most typos are certainly mine).

Anyways this may or may not be of interest/concern/xxxx to those involved
in FreeBSD.
