You have two basic choices:
- MachTen and Tenon's X
- an X that sits directly on top of the Mac window system, such as
  MacX.

The advantage to Tenon's version is that you can run local clients,
since it's a functional Unix environment. More importantly, it's much
faster that any other X (I've used MacX, Age's new PPC native version
of MacX). Finally, it's more "compatible": MacX doesn't give you a
nice clean Meta key, for example, so using Emacs is a pain.

The only downside of using X on a Mac is that (since it's not memory
protected) it crashes occasionally. I have a lot of init's and have
had a recurring crash (about once a day) that I've reported to Tenon.
It hasn't come back in a few days since I removed some inits
(Powertalk, QuickDraw3D, Now QuickContact and Reminder, at least).

The only downside of MachTen X is that it's fullscreen (doesn't
integrate well with other Mac programs). Of course, that is why it is
so much faster, and why it can give you the better compatibility.
