OH! you are worried because 'mt' doesn't know about it? *giggles uncontrollably* no, 'mt' doesn't and probably never will really.. but the kernel has full support for it.. the 'st' utility from freeBSD 1.1 was accidentally left out when 2.0 was made. It was re-incorporated in 2.0.5 and then combined with it's parent 'mt' for 2.1 (I think that's the time scale) anyhow, if you can get the source for mt from 2.1 you can get a much more useful program... It still won't recognise it by name, but it'll tell you a lot about it's active modes etc.. As for speed.. 512KB/sec is the max you can expect for that device.. what do you call 'real slow'? I suggest using as big a blocksize as possible on the writes, even possibly running the data through 'team' or 'ddd' (or even 'dd') to get bigger blocksizes if needed.. +----------------------------------+ ______ _ __ | __--_|\ Julian Elischer | \ U \/ / On assignment | / \ julian@tfs.com +------>x USA \ in a very strange | ( OZ ) 300 lakeside Dr. oakland CA. \___ ___ | country ! +- X_.---._/ USA+(510) 645-3137(wk) \_/ \\ ><DARWIN> v LL LL
