This problem occurs on any use of file buffers (named yank buffers, the the
command repeat (".") buffer, and so on) when one tries to get data to live
between instances of edits of multiple files.

The problem is the premature unlinking of the buffer file as a result of the
file change (:e, :n commands, etc.).

Yes.  You must also apply a patch.  The patch is in the patch kit, and has
also been posted to this newsgroup.
