After writing it, I decided that I should post it, and hopefully end this once and for all. (Fat chance, right?) This is the exact, unedited letter that I sent to her. My apologies for prolonging a thread which has no business in this newsgroup at all; let's hope we can end this before it gets out of hand. ------------------------------------ To: wjolitz@soda.berkeley.edu Subject: Re: Catch What They're Saying About Us... Newsgroups: comp.unix.bsd In-Reply-To: <19ta0nINNj2q@agate.berkeley.edu> Organization: University of Vermont, EMBA Computer Facility --text follows this line-- WARNING! This is NOT a flame! In article <19ta0nINNj2q@agate.berkeley.edu> you write: >[Of course. People have different opinions. And people cannot be so thin-skinned as you and survive in this community for long. 2. This is USENET. There are many thousands of people who read these little diatribes, and they reflect VERY BADLY on you (and your supporters). 3. Paul Vixie wants to *help* us. You do our (yes, I said OUR, and I mean it, too) cause no good by attacking our own ALLIES! 4. Paul's right. This is not the time for these kinds of vindictive recriminations. 5. This is ``comp.unix.bsd''. This is the appropriate place to TECHNICAL discussions about the BSD operating system, in all its many forms. It is NOT the appropriate place for political discussions or ad-hominem attacks against some of the leading lights of our community. There is a newsgroup called `alt.flame' which is the appropriate place for these discussions. NOT HERE! Many of your staunchest supporters, myself included, grow weary of the endless political yammering surrounding this system. I never was much of a good politician; I'm more interested in advancing the technical state of the art of the BSD Operating System, in ALL its flavors and colors. I *want* to support the development of free BSD systems. I don't want to support endless flame-wars on the subject. 'Nuff said. -GAWollman -- Garrett A.
