Here is what worked for me with SWiM 2.0 under FBSD 2.0.5 & X11R6 3.1.2

cd /usr 
ln -s /usr/X11R6 /usr/X386
ln -s /usr/X11R6 /usr/X11

/* then most of your problems will go away. */
