That's just not correct. You're assuming in advance that in order for a work to be commercially viable, you cannot practically distribute the source code for it. Gee, it seems like people are engaging in successful commercial ventures that involve releasing source code all over the place, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. I certainly don't mean to suggest that it's easy to persuade the marketing department at Big Brother, Consolidated that you should release your source to clients. But the suggestion that it's impossible to do so and still profit is provably wrong. This is an ancient discussion.
