Is not like you are going to buy an expensive package . In fact you
can install both on the same disk and do you own eval at your leisure.

FreeBSD is supported is just that we do it on the FreeBSD mailing lists so 
the down side is most netters like you think that there is no net support.
Also, http interface to the FreeBSD mailing lists  hence it helps to 
cut down a lot on the unnecessary e-mail requests.

Me, I run FreeBSD and have done so for quite sometime.

We can think this privately via e-mail, video, audio , mbone broadcasts,etc..
