The IDE drive has 2 DOS partitions. I installed 2.1R by ftping the distribution to sd0. I selected A in the 'Partition Edition' and A for the 'Label Editor'. I selected the whole sd0 for FreeBSD. I installed the 40MB minimum filesets. Rebooting the system went to DOS. I reboot with the boot floppy and select sd(0,a)/kernel and I got Error: C:0 H:0 S:0 ... ... I rebooted and mounted fixit. I could then mount /dev/sd0 /mnt and found the root file system. However, I couldn't see any device files /mnt/dev/sd0e and /mnt/dev/sd0f for /usr and /var as listed in /mnt/etc/fstab. I used fdisk and disklabel sd0 but not sure what to do with it since I couldn't see the man page. fsck /dev/sd0 reported no problem. I also tried installing the FreeBSD 2.1 on a ST15230N 4GB drive and got the similar problem. I had tried not selecting the whole sd0 for FreeBSD and installed the bootinst 1.7 from DOS to the IDE drive. I could boot F1: DOS but there was no F2: FreeBSD. bootinst 1.7 couldn't see the sd0 drive either. Hummmm, please help! Installing on a 486/40 with only an IDE drive was a piece of cake. This sd0 and wd0 thing is giving me headache. It's dinner time... Thanks in advance. -- Ken Wong - kkwong@ssbux1.env.gov.bc.ca or kkwong@ssbpost.env.gov.bc.ca Ministry of Environment, Lands & Parks, Systems Services Branch, Victoria, BC, Canada (604)387-9624 http://ssbwww.env.gov.bc.ca/~kkwong/
