I could not get the system to boot with the atapi.flp
floppy either. This led me to believe that the CD-ROM
drive was not jumpered to master. After wasting about
an hour taking the silly thing apart and finding that
it was jumpered to master, I then just tried building
a kernel with ATAPI support and that worked fine and recognized
the drive. It appears that the wd2 and wd3 entries were not commented
out (based on probe results) in the config file frot the kernel
on the atapi.flp floppy. If you install the system from some
source other than CD-ROM, and then comment out the wd2 and wd3
devices in the kernel config file, and uncomment the 2 lines for
ATAPI support and rebuild the kernel, it will probably work
just as well for you.

It might be nice if someone who knows how to make an installation
floppy could build one with a correct ATAPI config and upload it into the
incomming directory on the FreeBSD FTP server.

If someone could give me directions on how to make a bootable floppy
with a compressed kernel, and how to get it into the format that the
atapi.flp file is supposed to be in, I could build one, test it on
my hardware, and then upload it.
