OK, I've gotten pppd to work quite well for a dialup ppp server, but
I'm having one problem: When someone hangs up on my machine(as in a loss
of carrier) without requesting the link be shutdown, pppd never hangs up.
It just sits.

I know I could use an idle timeout with ijppp, but for reasons beyond my
control that's not an option.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.
