Message-ID: <9RHsRB2w165w@tsoft.sf-bay.org> Sender: bbs@tsoft.sf-bay.org (BBS User) Organization: The TSoft BBS and Public Access Unix, +1 415 969 8238 Date: Mon, 28 Sep 1992 02:22:31 GMT Lines: 22 I'm trying to find a good method to backup the 386bsd partitions onto 1.44 meg floppies. I've tried dump, and I don't really want to use it because of the following reasons: 1) it doesn't want to compress 2) it seems to just die after about 20 floppies have been dumped to 3) it isn't on the tiny BSD floppy (more on that reason later) 4) dump/restore seem to want me to do a newfs if I want to restore I'd really want something that would compress. I've tried various incantations of tar/cpio, and they don't want to span multiple disks. Since I may want to get a new hard drive, I would want to reinstall BSD on it with minimum fuss. That's the reason for #3 and #4 above. IF the tools I need are on the boot floppy this is all well and good, since then I can boot it up, install it, and then proceed to restore the resto of the filesystem. -- David Fox (bbs.barfeau@tsoft.sf-bay.org)
