Unfortunately I have to disagree with you Michael.  Definitely wasn't
the case with an AMD DX4/100 and my ASUS SP3G.  I did finally track
the problem down to needing to disable some of the CPU->PCI write
buffering, _but_ my Intel CPU didn't need it disabled.
