Is Walnut Creek the ONLY company that sells FreeBSD CD-ROMS? And I disagree with your opinion that the percentage of users that buy a CD is low. My experiences with people in the Linux community is that a large percentage will purchase a CD-ROM, either with a book, or as a standalone CD. I base this on my work with the Linux Users group on the UC Berkeley campus. Almost everyone who asks me about Linux also asks me where they can buy a CD-ROM. No one wants to take the time to download the entire distribution over a 14.4 modem. Disclaimer: I have no figures to back up what I said. I don't know the percentage of people who buy CD-ROMs vs download Linux off the net. It is just my *feeling* that, from working with people new to the Linux community, that most people Linux people prefer CD-ROMs to downloads. Of course, FreeBSD users might be different than Linux users with regards to purchasing CDs. That might also explain why FreeBSD doesn't have that much commerical support. Hey Jordan: Is there anyway that we can get the FTP logs from ftp.cdrom.com, and compare the number of accesses for Linux vs FreeBSD stuff? Take care, -- Nick Kralevich nickkral@cory.eecs.berkeley.edu
