You can use LILO to boot a FreeBSD partition. Just add a
section as if it were a DOS partition. For example if your
FreeBSD partition is the second one on the first SCSI drive,
add the following to /etc/lilo.conf
# DOS bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/sda2
label = bsd
table = /dev/sda
# DOS bootable partition config ends
Then typing 'bsd' at the LILO prompt will boot FreeBSD.
