I am just wondering how will the BSDI performs with 64 ports, say, >with 64Mb ram. > >Any ideas will be appreciated. > >Tom > BSDi's web pages have an article or two by Paul Vixie about the best configurations for good performance, which should answer your questions about Digiboard's PC/Xem product. To sum up, the PC/Xem drains a wee bit of CPU time from the system, as the drivers poll the digiboard hardware. Pentium/100s and above should have NO problem with performance. We are running an EISA 486DX2/66 with 32MB ram and an Xem config with 28 ports taken at this time. The system does primary DNS, acts as a 30000 hit/day web server, and is the official FTP site for the Association of Shareware Professionals, and hums just fine. We are considering upgrading it to a PCI/EISA pentium of some significant speed, but don't really feel the need to do so yet. Bottom line: I recommend the Xem product from Digiboard.
