Nntp-Posting-Host: valentine.ics.uci.edu Message-ID: <2AC8B07A.17659@ics.uci.edu> Newsgroups: comp.unix.bsd Organization: Univ. of Calif., Irvine, Info. & Computer Sci. Dept. Keywords: Permission denied MAXUSERS 386BSD Lines: 21 Date: 29 Sep 92 19:37:30 GMT I've had two problems with 386BSD: 1. All of a sudden, only the root user can login to my machine. Whenever someone else tries to login, I get "/bin/tcsh: Permission denied." It doesn't matter what shell that user is set up for either. This didn't start happening until I had installed X386. Permissions on the shell programs, the /dev/vga and /dev/console devices, and just about everything I could think of are set correctly. It's not a problem with the /etc/shells file either. Anybody got an idea on what's wrong? 2. I recompiled the kernel, setting MAXUSERS to 16, so that I could at least open a few windows under X386, but it still limits me to 4 pty's. What have I done wrong? Thnx -- Brett J. Vickers "Don't go around saying the world owes you bvickers@ics.uci.edu a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." - Mark Twain
