Apple, on the other hand, basically gives away their software and depends on the faithfullness of their software users to sell hardware, which is overpriced. DEC already made the conversion, Sun is toying with it but has always been afraid to make a firm market decision of any kind, and Apple is fully committed but it taking the conversion slowly.
