Because of the numerous and thoughtful replies I received from members of this group, my newsfeed problem was resolved. It turned out not to have anything to do with the DNS changes I was making at the same time. By moving the correct time zone file for Tokyo into /etc/localtime and resetting the 'date' the news messages started getting accepted again. I don't know why it suddenly stopped working at 11:22am on January 2nd though. That will remain one of those unresolved mysteries. Thanks again! Doug@going home for late New Year celebrations!
