Dear net.community,

I am trying to install FreeBSD 2.05 on my PC@home. Having installed
FreeBSD on about 10 other PC's without a glitch I did not expect any
difficulty, but.....

The install kernel that gets booted from the first disk only recognizes
my SCSI controller (aic0) with it's dependent devices, but not my
IDE controller. My SCSI controller does not have a BIOS so it can not
be used as a boot device. It is therefore nescessary to create the /
partition on an IDE drive and place /usr and other mountable file
systems on one of the SCSI drives.

If I boot the kernel it declares 'wdc0 at 1f0 not found', and starts the
installation procedure.

If I boot 'kernel -c' I can verify that wdc0 is configured at 1f0-1f7
on irq 14. I can then manually attach the device 'config> attach wdc0'
which beautifully recognizes the controller and both IDE drives. If I then
quit the configuration utility the kernel initialises (again saying
wdc0 not found) but it does *not* start the installation utility!!

Normally when I manually attach a device and then quit the configuration
utility the kernel panics when it tries to attach the already attached
device.

The other operating systems I am running (Windows/95, Windows/NT, Linux
and OS/2) recognize my IDE controller without any problem.

Please Help Me!
