I am thinking of something like that (for tcsh): startup: /etc/csh.cshrc if login-shell /etc/csh.login if login-shell ~/.tcshrc ~/.cshrc if no ~/.tcshrc ~/.login if login-shell exit: /etc/csh.logout ~/.logout if login-shell This is naturally just describing a standard, but even that would be quite useful. This table for all shells, X and Linux would be nice to have.
