I am going to Akihabara today to buy my second FreeBSD machine. I am
informed that I need a 2nd machine because I have to have both a primary
and secondary name server for my domain. (I am reading "DNS and BIND"
now, so I might end up asking questions about that later on as well. (^
_^).

Anyway, I want to use this new machine for all my News NNTP and also
SMTP for one domain (we actually have two domains in this Class C
network).

I am not going to attempt a COMPLETE feed that is saved for weeks or
anything like that. I am going to subscribe to newsgroups on demand from
my BBS members so that we don't waste time bringing in things that
nobody wants to read. Also, I think we will only keep messages for a few
days to a week (depending on the groups).

Any suggestions for partitioning a 1 or 2 gigabyte disk?

My current FreeBSD box has a 1 gigabyte Quantum Fireball and I simply
divided that into two partitions: 100MB for DOS and everything else in
one huge FreeBSD partition. But that is a waste of inodes isn't it?

When I configured the system, I did choose the smallest number of inode
size though. How many possible files does that give me?

Any partitioning recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug Lerner,
