The Conner is used for MS-DOS/Win3.11, WinNT 3.51 & Win95. I intend to use the entire Quantum for FreeBSD 2.1.0, and boot FreeBSD with a boot floppy. So I install the distribution on the Quantum disk via NFS, no problem. The second disk is identified as wd2 during installation, and everything is setup nicely by the installation program. I have inspected the setup with Boot & Fixup. Then comes the re-boot and a small problem: The command to boot from the second disk turns out to be wd(1,a)/kernel .. and then the kernel goes on to try to mount the root file system from wd1a! GREAT, except it is actually on wd2a!! I tried the /kernel -a flag, and the kernel does NOT ask what file system to mount as root file system. So I am into a numbering problem here. The BIOS numbers the two disks as 0 & 1. The FreeBSD kernel, however, uses a different numbering scheme: 0&1 on the first controller, 2&3 on the second controller. For several reasons (cabling and otherwise), I do not want to start moving the two disks & the CD-ROM around on the two IDE controllers. I also do not want to install the BootManager on my primary disk (I already have NT & Win95 ones there). What can I do the make this configuration work with just a boot floppy? -- tore PS: And a Happy New Year to y'all!! =================================================================== Email: Tore Haraldsen <toreh@bootes.sds.no> Smail: Statens Datasentral a.s, Box 6664 Rodelokka, N-0502 Oslo, Norway Street address: Ulvenveien 89B, N-0589 Oslo, Norway Phone: +47 22886000, Fax: +47 22648407
