I have a i486dx2, Caviar 2200 HD (from Western Digital) at 212 MB (989cyl, 12 hd, 35 sec) and 8 MB RAM. Here's the deal: I run the "non-adaptec" kernal on a 1.44 floppy. Next, I use the file system floppy. Then I run the installation program. I halt the system and re-boot using the kernal floppy. The installation instructions say to NOT flip to the file system floppy and that the hard drive should now be recognized. Everything works just fine until the prompt for a file system floppy. At that point, I simply press a key. It seems to over-look the hard drive and goes into another re-boot. If I boot with no floppy, it recognizes that it should be looking for a kernal floppy, but can't find it. Nothing else works right. It seems to be unable to mount the hard drive short of using the installation program, too. I've read the FAQs and found a problem about continueous re-boots in it (2.6.2, 2.5.5, and 2.0.3a-b(?)) I was wondering if anyone knew how to disable the "translations" that the FAQ referes to? As I mentioned before, I have a Western Digital hard drive, the Caviar 2200 with 212MB of space and 989 cylinders, 12 heads, and 35 sectors. All help appreciated, Jaime
