I get the same behavior my 486/66, Adaptec 1542B, and Exabyte EXB-8505
(full probe string is EXB-85058SQANXR1 0B50); running both 2.0.1-R and
2.0.5-R.

The other day, I got more information:
    tar: can't write to /dev/rst0 : Input/output error
    Dec 28 14:36:37 foobar /kernel: st0(aha0:4:0): timed out
    Dec 28 14:36:37 foobar /kernel: st0(aha0:4:0): timed out

Any ideas from anyone? Should I increase some timeout value somewhere?
