BSDI/News Problem... help kindly requested Date: Thu, 11 Jan 1996 17:47:26 GMT Organization: Network Enterprise Technology Inc Lines: 33 Message-ID: <30f54d00.11463334@news> NNTP-Posting-Host: 205.211.8.109 X-Newsreader: Forte Agent .99c/16.141 I think I might be in need of a little expert advice here: I'm running a BSDI2.0.1 system on a dx2-66 w/ 32MB ram. I'm receiving news at about 100msgs/160sec, and my provider says I should be receiving more... much more! My feed should be about 100,000 msgs/day, or so they say. However, at the speed I'm bringing them in, I never catch up. In fact, doing the math results in me getting about 54,000 per day. The question: WHY?! My connection speed is not the problem. The load average on the news machine rarely goes above 0.50. The only thing I can think of is that the SCSI controller might be too slow. It's an Adaptec 1542CF. Here's my nntpsend.ctl file, in case it helps! TIA, Rob/NET ## $Revision: 1.1.1.1 $ ## Control file for nntpsend. ## Format: ## site:fqdn:max_size:[<args...>] ## <site> The name used in the newsfeeds file for this site; ## this determines the name of the batchfile, etc. ## <fqdn> The fully-qualified domain name of the site, ## passed as the parameter to innxmit. ## <size> Size to truncate batchfile if it gets too big; ## see trunc(1). ## <args> Other args to pass to innxmit ## Everything after the pound sign is ignored. onet:hone.onet.on.ca:1m:-T1800 -t300
