You can get more communications in and out of 3rd : world countries via UUCP/Fido links (gatewayed to the Internet) than you : can with voice or fax telephones. I beg to differ. POTS most certainly does count. If for naught else, than as a carrier for UUCP/Fido towards those very same third countries. Or would you care to praise the HAM Radio? /Alby
