I'm running the Linux Netscape 2.0b5 with Java support under "linux-lib" Linux
emulation. It works great! I vaguely remember some mention of porting Java to
FreeBSD ( doubtless a "pseudo-MT" implementation, since FreeBSD has no kernel
threads ) taking place on the java-porting list. I don't know what the status
is. Personally, until there are real threads in FreeBSD, I don't see why the
Linux emulation is any more heinous of a kludge than what might get ported.
Maybe the difference is that a JDK or other programming environment will be
available?

Oh, BTW, this is under 2.1.0-RELEASE.
