So implement alternatives and place them under UCB license. If they are "more POSIX compliant", they will be adopted. The problem is that the SVR4 interfaes are gratuitously incompatible, not the other way around. It wasn't so long ago that conforming to SVID would make you liable for an interface copyright suit.
