Recently we had diskspace problems on / filesystem. Before diskspace was freed up someone tried to changed their passwd. Since then no one has been able to login on the system. We were able to bring up the system in single-user mode and found that all the files on the root or other filesystems did not have a username associated to them [i.e. you can see the userid but no username]. I believe somehow with diskspace being full on the root filesystem, the /etc/passwd was corrupted. However I do not know how to fix it. I have recreated the /etc/passwd and /etc/master.passwd files from another system [which is a complete duplicate] but it did not fix it. Can anyone help? Please send e-mail back ASAP.
