I'm requested to set up a (Net)BSD system on a bunch of PCs and
   have some questions to you.

   1) What is the difference between FreeBSD and NetBSD?

They're more alike than they are different. The most obvious
difference is that FreeBSD emphasizes optimizing the hell out of the
x86 PC platform, where NetBSD is very platform independent, and runs
on more architectures than any other OS that I know of.

   2) Where can I find NetBSD?

ftp.netbsd.org... ftp.iastate.edu... gatekeeper.dec.com... etc.

   3) What hardware is recommended/supported? {Eth, ATM, Video}-cards...

Just make sure you don't buy the cheapest no-name stuff, or you'll
probably be sorry. Consult the XFree86 documents (www.xfree86.org)
for video, since all the free unix systems use XFree86 for X.

Ethernet, I don't think you can go wrong with SMC. 3com is good, but
some people say under-buffered. I'm not the best authority on
ethernet cards, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice from others.

If you guy SCSI (and I *heavily* recommend that you do), stick with
the big guys. BusLogic is generally the number-one recommended card.
Adaptec cards work also, but I have a personal grudge against their
policies. The NCR (53c8xx) SCSI cards also work well, and are very
inexpensive.
