Not to mention RFC 1191 (path MTU discovery), which does help performance over congested Internet paths quite a bit, because it reduces the packet count by nearly a factor of three for larger-size transfers, as long as it's supported by both end-systems. Of course that could have been implemented in SunOS 4 too. -- Simon.
