You need to have to 3C503 set to:

port 0x280
IRQ 5
iomem 0xd800

If you don't have the card setup this way, the boot floppy is not
going to see it at device ed0. As for the AUI versus the BNC
connector, I not sure, but isn't it a jumper option on the nic?

After the install, you can set the card back to where you want it and
re-compile the kernel with the new settings.

Make sure that you have nothing else in the system that might possibly
interfere with the ed0 addresses.

One other problem you might encounter is in the FTP install in the
section where you select the "media" option. If you pick a ftp site
or a URL to install from, the 2.1R FreeBSD will attempt to login to
the FTP site with a login of "ftp" and a password of "ftp@". This
doesn't work on some of the mirrror sites that host FreeBSD. Ours
included (ftp.synapse.net). You need to go to the "options" menu item
and change the "FTP LOGIN" to "anonymous" with a password as your
e-mail address. Ie: "someone@somewhere.com". Quit the "options" menu
and carry on.
