It's the default recommendation since 95 % of the people are
requesting the DOS (or Linux) compatibility anyway, and another
substantial part of them would seriously risk damaging their existing
data if we made the (more unix-like) everything-is-owned-by-FreeBSD
variant the default one.

People like you however are the group the non-DOS-compatible
``dangerously dedicated'' option is targetted to.  I do also love it,
but hey, i've been implementing it. :-)
