The problem I have is this. Logins from a serial port issue the banner, and the "login:" prompt. Entering a user, or myself or my uucp host, all of whom have passwords works Ok from the console, or vt. Once the login name is sent, "password:" is issued. Enter password. Nothing. No one, including myself get any response back. It just sits there idle. Process on that particular term show login -p (whoever). I created a dummy user, and used no initial password. Dialed back in, and with that dummy user, login went OK, and I got in, however, I had to stty sane to get a "normal" screen. As soon as I added a password, and tried to call back in, I got the same problem. Never getting past password:. I've checked passwords, groups, tty's, login.access, and read just about every manpage and handbook even remotely connected. The permissions appear to be correct on login. One more thing.. if I login via serial (with no password set) then exec login again, I can issue a user or system with a password, and it will follow thru with no problems. Might I have getty using wrong gettytab? (std.19200, and have tried t.19200) as one is telebit.. What else is there to look at? Thanks again... -sam- -- S.W.
