OK, I've got an IBM Thinkpad 755 with IBM PCMCIA Ethernet card II.

Ethernet card is detected fine as ze0 by FreeBSD 2.1.0-RELEASE boot floppy.

Ethernet connection, IP number, DNS, and gateway IPs are *known* to be
correct (same machine with Ethernet same card plugged into the same
Ethernet cable with the same values talks to the net just fine under
win95, and my BSDI box over on the other side of the office confirms
all the numbers (e.g. netstat -r show the default route I'm using, dig
confirms IPs and name servers, etc.).

When I select ze0 as network interface and execute the 2.1.0 install,
FreeBSD powers up the PCMCIA Ethernet card just fine -- the card's
indicators come alive and show network good and moderate traffic level.

But ftp install fails -- the dialog box says "cannot resolve
hostname", and over on the other virtual console I get the messages

writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable
add net default: gateway xxx.yyy.zzz.www: Network is unreachable

Of course this happens regardless of what ftp host I select (even one
on the same subnet as me). Even specifying the ftp host by IP number
fails.

Help??
