: Hello !

: Recently I purchased the new FreeBSD 2.1 CD-Rom distribution, and I try
: to install it over my FreeBSD 2.0.5. It works fine, but I have two
: little problems. The hardware is an 80486 machine with an IDE hard disk
: controller, two IDE hard disks, a Sound Blaster Card and a Mitsumi
: Cd-Rom drive Atapi connected to the sound card. This configuration works
: perfectly with WIndows '95.

: With FreeBSD 2.0.5 I was able to access the first and second hard disk
: units, but with 2.1, I have to connect the Cd-Rom unit to the HD
: controller instead of the sound card in order to make the cd work.

: 1st. question : What can I do for working with the two hard disks
: drives and the Atapi Cd-Rom unit ?

SOunds cards under Fbsd will not work off of sound cards (as far as
I know). Either get an EIDE controller (with 4 ide device capbility), or
get another IDE controller.

: 2st. question : It is possible to install Windows '95 in the first hard
: disk, FreeBSD in the second one, and a program from booting from W95 or
: UNIX ?

Yes, and no. You'll have to install boot partitions (as small as
you want as long as they hold enough boot info) on harddisk 0 (your first
drive. That's just the way it is. For exmapl, my 850 harddrive has 840
devotred to unix, and 10 devoted to dos. My second harddrive hold my unix
swap partition and most of my windows and dos programs.

: Thanks a lot.

no problem :)
