Michael Hancock <michaelh@cet.co.jp> wrote: ] I understand the skepticism and the licensing fees for X/Open compliance ] are apparently a little steep. This will undoubtedly make X/Open an ] enemy in the FreeBSD and Linux crowds. Having standards is important, but I do object to what is effectively a "club membership fee" to obtain compliance. Since you can't use the trademark without ceritification, and you can't get certification without paying an authorized testing laboratory, there's really no good reason for not making the ceritifcation tests publically available. A fee can still be required for certification by a testing lab, and for trademark usage,if it comes down to it.
