PPP problems Date: 23 Jan 1996 23:59:15 -0500 Organization: Express Access Online Communications USA: 800-969-9090 Lines: 40 Message-ID: <4e4eb3$fjd@access4.digex.net> NNTP-Posting-Host: access4.digex.net I've been trying to configure pppd (the kernel version) for a day now, and I'm having the worst time trying to get it going. Basically, I've gotten my 'chat' script to correctly dial my ISP, at which point pppd says Connecting ppp0 <--> /dev/cuaa1 This is the point when PAP authentication should begin, but pppd never seems to start the PAP sequence. My pppd command line looks like: pppd +pap name <my_name> defaultroute connect "chat -f <chat_script>" /dev/cuaa1 57600 and I've set up the file /etc/ppp/pap-secrets with a line like: <my_name> * <my_passwd> Where the * indicates that I want dynamic addressing, and <my_name> is the same as entered on the pppd command line. This is all I ever had to do on my other (NetBSD/Mac68K) system. What have others done to get pppd working in a PAP environment? Is anyone else out there connecting to PSI's Interramp service? If so, how did you do it? As an aside, I watched the login process while using 'cu', just so that I could figure out the expect-send pairs needed by 'chat'. Once connected, the ISP never sends a "login:" prompt, as I was expecting. The server appears to just sit there, until it decides I've taken too long and ends the connection. Is there some control code or something I should put in my 'chat' script, to force the server to send the "login:" prompt? Thanks very much in advance. -David. -- ________________________________________ David C. Myers dcmyers@access.digex.net
