Is your card actually a WD or an SMC? I have an SMC (should be exactly the same) set up the same way... BSD recognzed it, and I could even ftp to wuarchive to get the bindist. But I get an error whenever I try to actually GET anything (netin: bad address)... Maybe our problems have the same cause...
