Firstly Neptune has had historical problems supporting more than (2, I think) PCI bus masters, and usually significantly slower than Triton. The disadvantage of Triton is that it only supports 128MB of ram (64MB cached in some cases). That limitation is usually a bit less constraining (for example gateway applications where you might want 2 ethernet interfaces, 1 scsi -- Bzzt -- 3 busmasters.) If more memory is needed, you could get a single processor Neptune for probably about the same money as a Triton -- the MP boards appear to be a bit more expensive. John Dyson dyson@freebsd.org
