  I had this problem when installing my Digiboard PC/8e to my BSDI box.  As I 
recall, it turned out to be either an address or irq conflict.  These 
settings not only have to be set on the board, but in the kernel, too.  The 
Digiboard came with a DOS prog I used to scan the machine's hardware 
configuration to come up with unused address space (you should only need 8k), 
and irq.
