| What's your actual problem? Where is the installation doing something
| wrong?

I had no problem with installation with every partition
configurations, but I was not able to boot from HD with FreeBSD
bootmanager : wd(0,a)/kernel hangs but I was able to boot my DOS
partition.

Then I made a stupid thing, I asked FreeBSD to verify the
blocks of my HD... bad idea ! Since, DOS-fdisk did not work anymore
and turned the HD off !! I've tried to fdisk (Western Digital Caviar
420) with the Promise eidefdisk program, ok but after DOS-formating
and reboot, the BIOS tells me "Hard drive fails" !!

A friend told that this may be due to the bad-block-check during
installation. Check informations written one some blocks could not be
removable anymore... he has read that thing on a Seagate HD
user-documention.

I think my HD just need a Low-level format... I really hope !

Now I have a Western Digital 850 EIDE HD. The BIOS extension for
geometry translation is on the Promise2300+ controller. Does FreeBSD
use geometry translation ? If true, when ? During bootstraping, later ?

Any idea ?

Thanks a lot in advance.
