Part of this is almost certainly due to my not being familiar with BSD unix in general (I work with SYSV though), so if there is some good documentation which explains some of this I would appreciate hearing about it. 1. In some files I see a reference to a new book on the internals of 386bsd that should be out in late 1992; does anybody know the status of this? The same files also refer to the on-line 386bsd user manual. Does this just refer to the man-pages, or is there some other manual I haven't discovered? (I have already read the Installation Notes and the FAQ.) 2. My LAN (WE8003 card) doesn't seem to work properly, and I am not sure what is going wrong. The ifconfig is not reporting any errors, but when I try to ftp to another machine the ftp just times out. Any attempt to access the machine from the lan gives the console message 'reject 65531', which appears to be a kernel message. I have included a sample from the log file later. My lan is just a thinlan segment to one other machine, so routing shouldn't be the problem. The lan works under DOS using NCSA, and is set to IRQ 2 and I/O address 0x280. 3. My SCSI tape (Archive 2525S on Adaptec 1542B) seems to work, but always reports an error when it starts. The first try it usually doesn't work, but the second try it will work properly. This may be due to using low density DC600 tapes in it for now, or it may be due to the driver not handling a 2525S properly. I have included a sample from the log file later. 4. The floppy boot disk will allow different screen sizes, as well as having a screen blanking timeout, but I can't find either available in the standard hard disk configuration. I would like to know where these are, so I can try installing them (I have the src set installed). 5. I have an IDE drive for DOS, but I am using SCSI for 386bsd, so I would like an easier way of switching. Currently I use the BIOS configuration to disable the IDE drive to boot 386bsd. I see where Linux has boot managers available, but I haven't seen any mention here. 6. Can the mtools access the IDE drive when it is disabled, or can they access an MSDOS partition on the bsd drive? If I can't access the DOS partition on the SCSI, then I'll take it off for more 386bsd room.
