On boot up, the 7 luns are detected and assigned cd0-cd6.
However, trying to mount any of these later gives the error message
that cd9660 is not supported on this drive.

Did you make sure to specify the read-only flag?
Here's how I mount my (single-disc) CD-ROM:
mount -r -t cd9660 /dev/cd0d /cd
