Read the FreeBSD FAQ, section 7.  It's available online after
installation, in /usr/share/doc/FAQ/.

Dunno about the network card, perhaps it's compatible to something
well-known.  What's with the modem?  Is it a normal serial port?  Then
it should be simple.  Read the FAQ, perhaps the section about
UserConfig is for you.

I know of at least one guy writing a book covering the installation.
