I stored my XF86Config file in /etc.

I have a #9 Motion-whatever 771 card and a Phillips Brilliance 15A
monitor. We run at 1024x768, with virtual settings at the same size.

I simply went in and commented out the 'Modeline' entries until X
displayed the resolution I wanted, then I went down further in the file
and commented out the 'Virtual' definitions under each of the 'Screen'
declarations.

Good luck!
