The disk has an initial msdog partition of 500mb with the remaining space being split up into 3 bsd slices, 30mb root, 30mb swap, rest /usr. What seems to happen is that the root partition gets written ok, but when it tries to write to the /usr partition the following error occurs and the adaptec controller hangs. "sd0(aha0:0:0:) adapter not taking commands. frozen!" The only option then left is to reboot. Is my problem something to do with the adaptec bios disc geometry (< 1gb) being different to the actual geometry (> 1gb) ? I have been able to install onto a smaller 300mb SCSI I disc on the same adapter without any problem. regards francis j. hitchens
