Linux (I know it's not for most people, but *I* find text configurations and horrendously long command lines with pipes etc. easier than scrollbars and check boxes etc. I know that's very weird 8-). I especially like to minimize extraneous motions to do things, i.e. having to go for a start button way in the corner of the screen to start things instead of typing the name (text) or finding any area not covered by a window to bring up a program list (in X with fvwm.) : >3.) Have you ever had a crash on your computer, that was blamed, or the : >fault of the OS/OE, if so.. which system/environment was the cause? Yes, when using development versions. 1.1.7x (don't remember what exact version) and also 1.3.51. I haven't had any crashes in 1.3.59 though after several weeks, sometimes heavily using it. 1.1.59 was *very* stable, I had uptimes of weeks with it. Not loads of users, but I would just leave the thing on all the time; I suppose showed mainly a lack of severe memory leaks or bugs in the drivers I used. With umm.. 1.1.95? with kswap patches, I had 10 users simultaneously (in 10 megs of RAM.. ouch.) No problems. No when using stable ones (1.0.9 briefly until I started on the early 1.1.xx's, 1.2.10, 1.2.13..) I suppose summary is stable ones are stable (really *extremely* stable once they finish a stable series fully..i.e. 1.0.9 and 1.2.13..), and development ones, it's kind of a Russian roulette, but you can ask around to hear which are rumored to be most stable (1.3.59 is pretty stable 8-). : David.
