I am currently running Linux (latest kernel. 1.3.59) on our server, but I
am considering getting something else, as I have problems with some basic
packages like PPP (sometimes the Mac clients will only work a couple of
minutes), no support for the Adaptec 7850 SCSI controller (not in BSD
either), and some other annoyances.

Is it worth it switching to another unix ? Does the BSD versions support
the e2fs used by Linux ? Are they binary compatible ?

The server is a 90MHz Pentium, 32MB RAM, 2 SCSI disks + CD, 1 IDE disk,
leased line (64k). It works as mail, ftp, www server. Has virtual domain
names. It is used as an X-client. We also run netatalk and samba on it.
And both MUST be supported. (or other Windows and Mac file sharing
packages).

Any advice is appreciated.
